LUCKNOW: The Delhi resident, who tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, has left a trail of 44 suspected cases in
Uttar Pradesh. All of them, who are related or linked to him, have been identified and either hosptialised, or quarantined at home.
Alarmed over the situation, the health officials convened an emergency meeting to review the situation. Health minister
Jai Pratap Singh, who headed the meeting, said that six people from
Agra - out of these 44 - who were showing high level of viral load, have been shifted to
Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. However, he reiterated that UP had no Covid-19 positive case so far.
When asked to comment on reports that the six patients from Agra undergoing treatment in Delhi have tested positive for Covid-19, Dr Vikasendu Agarwal, nodal officer, communicable diseases, UP, said: "Not as of now. Their samples have been sent for confirmation to Pune and the report is expected in two days."
Delhi man who tested +ve travelled to ItalyAccording to reports, the Delhi-based resident who has tested positive, had gone to Italy on a family vacation in February. Upon his return, he organised a get-together of those who had travelled along with him. The party was also attended by his relatives from Agra, Bulandshahr and Noida. All these 44 persons from UP who attended the party have been tracked by the health department in UP.
“As many as 44 contacts of a patient at Delhi have been identified. While 29 have been quarantined at home, 17 of these are admitted at various hospitals. Among those hospitalised, six each have gone to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi and a government hospital in Noida. Five others have been admitted to district hospital Bulandshahr,” Agarwal said.
Health officials said samples of all the 44 contacts were studied by expert microbiologists at King George’s Medical University to assess the viral load in each case. “Six patients undergoing treatment at Safdarjung hospital showed high presence of viruses in their bodies, but only two show symptoms of disease while remaining are asymptomatic. Their samples have been sent to National Institute of Virology Pune to confirm or rule out presence of Covid-19,” said Dr Agarwal.
Earlier, talking to reporters on closure of schools in Noida on account of coronavirus fear, the health minister said: “Six persons from two families, including two children, had also travelled to Italy with the person who tested positive in Delhi. They were screened as they came in contact with a confirmed case. As per protocol, the contact children have been quarantined at home, but schools have taken steps to sanitise the campus.”
Claiming there has been no confirmed case in UP so far, Dr Agarwal said: “Another traveller from Noida who had come in contact with a positive case of German origin had been admitted at RML Hospital, Delhi.
