Businessman’s son among two held under Arms Act

Rajkot: Two men, including son of a known chemical businessman, were arrested under the Arms Act after they were found in possession of a country-made gun from University Road on Monday midnight.
The accused were identified as Aatman Janak Meta (27) and his friend Navnit Varu (28). Aatman is son of Rajkot-based chemical businessman Janak Meta.
According to police, Aatman had an altercation with the owner of a pan shop located at University Road over some petty issue on Monday. After the heated argument, Aatman called Navnit and told him to bring his gun. Navnit rushed to the spot with a loaded gun.
However, the pan shop owner had already informed the police about the incident. As soon as Navnit arrived with the gun, city crime branch sleuths nabbed the duo and arrested them under the Arms Act. The accused duo was found in possession of a country-made gun and four live cartridges. Police said that they will be questioning the duo from where they purchased the gun and if there was an organised arms smuggling racket.
