Spinning mill gutted in fire in Palladam

Tirupur: A major fire broke out in a spinning mill near Palladam on Tuesday, damaging cotton stock and machineries.
There were about 30 employees working in the unit at Poomalur when the fire broke out. However, they escaped unhurt.
It took more than three hours to douse the fire by personnel from three fire stations in the region. The mill belonged to N Sivaprakash from Mangalam Sultanpet.
Fire service personnel said that the fire could have been sparked by a short-circuit but did not rule out other causes. While an inquiry is on to zero in on the cause of the fire, efforts to ascertain the extent of loss has also begun.
According to police, the sparks were first spotted from the machinery in the unit which soon spread to the place where cotton bales were kept.
