PATNA: A 25-year-old woman received gunshot injuries when an unidentified person fired at the owner of a general store where she had gone to purchase stationery items on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Naya Tola under Kadamkaun police station area in city. The woman, identified as Tarana Khatoon, was rushed to
Patna Medical College and Hospital where she underwent surgery. Police said the victim is a native of
Godda district in Jharkhand and was living in Patna to prepare for competitive examinations. People in the neighbourhood said general store owner Rajesh Kumar had heated arguments with a roadside vendor almost an hour before the incident.
Kadamkuan police station SHO (incharge) Rakesh Kumar said Tarana suddenly felt like an electric shock in her left leg soon after she reached the shop. “The very next moment she saw heavy bleeding from left thigh. Locals bandaged the wound with cloths and rushed her to hospital,” the SHO said and added that the woman was living in a hostel in the same locality. Kumar said no empty cartridge was recovered from the spot.
Town DSP Suresh Prasad, who rushed to PMCH, said actually the general store owner was the target. “The store owner had heated arguments with a person who used to sell fast food on a roadside cart nearby. Minutes before the firing took place, both shopowners had badly abused each other,” the DSP said.
He said the fast food shopowner’s associate had reached the spot and opened fire resulting in injury to the student. No one was arrested in this connection, he added.
