Argentina, Chile confirm first cases of Coronavirus
A 43-year-old man who recently returned to the capital Buenos Aires on Sunday from a trip to Italy, while a 33-year-old Chilean man who had spent a month in South-East Asia were confirmed as the first coronavirus cases in the Latin American neighbours.

- Air India and IndiGo have suspended flights to Shanghai, Hong Kong.

The coronavirus infections showed signs of receding in China with 38 new fatalities, taking the total number of deaths to 2,981, Chinese health officials have said even as countries grappled to contain the fast-spreading deadly virus that has claimed over 3,100 lives globally. By the end of Tuesday, 2,981 people died of the COVID-19 and a total of 80,270 confirmed cases of the virus were reported in China, National Health Commission reported on Tuesday.
Abu Dhabi hotels allow some guests to leave after coronavirus scare
Two luxury hotels in Abu Dhabi, which had been in lockdown amid concerns about the coronavirus during a professional cycling event, allowed some guests to leave on Sunday after they tested negative for the disease, company spokespersons said. The W Abu Dhabi and the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi had been placed under lockdown on Friday as authorities screened all guests, including scores of professional cyclists. There were concerns they might have interacted with two Italian cyclists who were suspected of contracting the disease.

Infected Italians recorded a high viral load
- Fourteen out of twenty-one Italian nationals who were shifted to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) quarantine facility for coronavirus screening, have recorded high viral load and are asymptomatic.
- Further tests are underway to examine their conditions.
- ITBP said that no fresh symptoms of coronavirus were seen in 112 people housed at its quarantine facility in Chhawla.

Coronavirus claims 3 more lives in Seattle
A North Carolina resident tested positive after returning from a trip to Washington state, where the individual was exposed, and apparently infected, during a visit to a nursing facility at the centre of a recent surge in cases in suburban Seattle.

All Delhi hospitals asked to keep good quality isolation wards
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan: We have requested all hospitals in Delhi to develop good quality isolation wards, in order to stay prepared if more cases of coronavirus are suspected in the national capital.

A report by IANS has an inside story on how the man in Delhi was found to be infected with coronavirus. He had flown in from Budapest, and when he landed in Delhi, there was no check up as such. He was not showing any symptoms then. But the next day he had fever so he went for check up with a doctor. His fever was not dropping so they advised him that since he was travelling he should get a check up done. From there, he went to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital for a proper check up. At RML also, before the check up he said he wanted to get a corona test done. At that point, they put him in isolation, and when the reports came they were positive.

WHO warns of protective gear shortage amid COVID-19 fears
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that there is a severe shortage in personal protective equipment (PPE) and called on manufacturers to urgently increase production to meet the demand as the novel coronavirus rapidly spreads across the globe.
It is estimated that PPE supplies need to be increased by 40 percent globally, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a daily briefing, noting that shortages of PPE such as gloves, medical masks, respirators, goggles, and face shields are leaving frontline healthcare workers dangerously ill-equipped to care for COVID-19 patients.
Schools in Secunderabad's Mahendra Hills shut
Few schools in Mahendra Hills neighbourhood in Secunderabad were shut on Wednesday as a precautionary measure as the software engineer who tested positive for Covid-19 has his house here. At least three major private schools in the area, which falls under Secunderabad Cantonment Board, declared indefinite holidays as a precautionary measure.

Crew member of ship moved to Cuttack hospital over suspected Coronavirus
In a bid to prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, a crew member of a cargo ship was shifted to a hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday after he developed symptoms of fever and sore throat, informed Paradip Port Trust Chairman Rinkesh Roy today. Meanwhile, in Kochi 459 passengers of the Italian luxury cruise ship 'Costa Victoria', which was docked in its port, were screened for respiratory symptoms and fever on Wednesday.

- American Airlines has extended the suspension of China and Hong Kong flights through April 24
- Air France said on Feb. 6 it would suspend flights to and from mainland China for much of March
- Air India has suspended flights to Shanghai, Hong Kong until June 30
- Air Seoul has suspended China flights from Jan. 28 until further notice.
- Air Tanzania, which had planned to begin a charter service to China in February, postponed its maiden flights.
- Air Mauritius has suspended all flights to China and Hong Kong
- Austrian Airlines has suspended its service until end-February.
- British Airways has suspended extended its flight suspension until April 17.
- Delta Airlines flights have been suspended from Feb. 2-April 30
- Egyptair suspended flights on Feb. 1, but on Feb. 20 said it would resume some flights to and from China starting next week.
- El Al Israel Airlines has extended its suspension of flights to Hong Kong and Beijing until May 2.
- KLM said on March. 2 it would extend its ban on flights to Chengdu, Hangzhou and Xiamen in China to at least May 3 because of the coronavirus outbreak. It expects to resume flights to Beijing and Shanghai on March 29.
- Lion Air has suspended flights for all of February.
- Lufthansa has extended China flight cancellations until April 24.
- Oman Air suspended flights on Feb. 2 until further notice.
- Qatar Airways has suspended services from Feb. 1 until further notice.

Is there a drug against the virus?
China will use a Roche Holding AG arthritis drug to treat some coronavirus patients in severe conditions, health authorities said on Wednesday, as the country seeks to build up treatment regiments to help the infected recover. Tocilizumab, sold by the Swiss pharma giant under the trade name Actemra, can be prescribed to coronavirus patients who show serious lung damage and show elevated level of a protein called Interleukin 6, which could indicate inflammation or immunological diseases, the National Health Commission said in the latest version of its treatment guidelines published online. Actemra can help contain inflammation related to Interleukin 6, according to Roche.
There is no clinical trial evidence yet that the drug will be effective on coronavirus patients, however.

While two schools have been shut in Noida over fears of a coronavirus outbreak, authorities in the capital are not taking any chances either. Many Delhi schools have issued advisories to parents, requesting them to keep their wards at home if they show respiratory symptoms such as cold and cough.

36 of Hyderabad techie's contacts show symptoms of coronavirus
At least 36 of the 88 people that the 24-year-old software professional from Hyderabad came in contact with after returning from Dubai are showing "some symptoms" of Covid-19, Telangana government officials said on Tuesday. While 45 of his contacts were taken to the state-run Gandhi Hospital since Monday night, the remaining, who were not symptomatic, have been kept in isolation at their homes.

The UAE Tour was abandoned last Thursday after two Italian staff members with one of the teams tested positive for the disease.
The cyclists, team staff and some media were put under lockdown at hotels in Abu Dhabi where they underwent screening, with most cleared to leave over the past few days.

A spokeswoman for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle said the patient died on February 26. She said the person had been a resident at a suburban Seattle care facility that has reported multiple virus cases and deaths. All of the COVID-19 deaths in the United States so far have been in the Seattle area.
