Vadodara: A senate member of MS University has alleged that there has been an “unwarranted” delay in declaring results of the 14th Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) held in December last year.
GSET is conducted to determine eligibility of candidates from the state for assistant professor in universities and colleges of Gujarat. MS University which is the nodal agency for holding GSET had conducted the test in 23 subjects at 11 centres across Gujarat.
“It is now 60 days and unfortunately, the results have not been released putting careers of thousands of candidates at risk,” said senate member Kapil Joshi.
Joshi claimed that even results of National Eligibility Test (NET) where lakhs of students appear have been declared within 30 days.
“GSET was held with objective type and multiple-choice questions format. Computers can generate results within few moments,” Joshi added.
He said that a number of universities across the state including neighbouring Sardar Patel University in Anand have published notifications inviting applications from candidates for the post of assistant professors. “Because of this unfortunate delay, many candidates have lost chances to participate in the interview process,” claimed Joshi.
Professor C N Murthy, GSET’s member secretary, told TOI, that there has not been any undue delay in declaration of results.
“Normally, it takes 45 days to two months to declare the results. We conducted the test on December 29 last year after which as per the norms, we have to resolve queries that we receive from students. Once we receive queries, we call experts from varied streams to address those queries and after that the results are prepared and declared,” he said.
“In the past too, when we have conducted exams in the month of September, the results have been declared in the month of December. So, there is nothing unusual this time,” he said. Murthy added that GSET results are expected to be declared in mid-March.
The 14th GSET had witnessed a record number – 25,423 – candidates appeared for the test.
