BENGALURU: Fourteen class 10 students have been detained for downloading and sharing the mathematics question paper of the recently held SSLC preparatory exams.
The detentions were made after police found the boys had downloaded the maths paper from ‘Hello App’ and shared it on WhatsApp on the morning of February 17, the day when the preparatory exam for the subject was held across the state.

The English question paper was also leaked, but police are yet to make any detentions in that connection.
Police are yet to identify the source of the leaked maths paper, which matched the original. DCP (north) N Shashikumar said their investigation will reach a logical end in the next couple of days. “Soon, we will find the person who leaked the question paper. We have sought some reports from the Karnataka Secondary Education and Examination Board (KSEEB), and will continue our probe based on its reply,” he said.
Meanwhile, another senior police officer said the origin of the math paper leak was Bangarpet in Kolar district. “The first forwarded message on WhatsApp came from Bangarpet. The Block Education Officer (BEO) had visited the police station to file a complaint. But police didn’t register a case saying the question paper on WhatsApp didn’t match the original,” he said.
BP Kempaiah, BEO, Bangarpet, confirmed that he visited the police station on February 17 but cops didn’t register the complaint. Staff at Bangarpet police station said they didn’t wish to comment since investigation is on.
The maths question paper was circulated on social media on February 17. Copies of the English paper went viral an hour before the exam the next day.
The preparatory exams were held in 12,536 schools across the state. After the maths paper leak, officials from KSEEB registered a complaint with cybercrime police.
