FALL RIVER — The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation announced that six grants totaling $15,000 were awarded to area nonprofits during the foundation’s second grant cycle of 2019. This second round of awards brings the foundation’s 2019 grant total to $55,000.

The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation serves communities within southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Its mission is to enrich the lives of families and children who are burdened by life’s challenges by providing access to vital resources including, but not limited to, health and mental health services, food and shelter. Funding is awarded twice each year to nonprofit organizations that provide vital services and programming to members of local communities.

Second-Round Grant Cycle Awards (2019)

— Angels Anonymous of Fall River received $2,500 to help feed families and veterans in need. Angels Anonymous is one of the largest food banks in Fall River, giving reliable food access to hundreds of local families battling food insecurity.

— Atlantis Charter School of Fall River received $5,000 to support a safe, caring, innovative and progressive learning environment for students. Funds will be used to advance the school’s career development programs, which promote the academic excellence and life-long learning skills needed to help launch the next generation of the workforce.

— Forever Paws Animal Shelter of Fall River received $1,000 to help restore the health, dignity and happiness of abused and abandoned pets. Funds will be used to revamp the heating and cooling systems in the shelter’s outdoor kennels to ensure the comfort of all residing pets.

— Hope Health Hospice of Providence received $1,200 to support the nonprofit’s Camp Angel Wings program. Camp Angel Wings is a bereavement camp that provides children with the support and resources needed to cope with the loss of a parent or sibling.

— Katie Brown Educational Program of Fall River received $2,800 to support educational programs working to end dating violence and promote healthy relationships. Funds will be used to continue sharing life-saving information with students in fifth grade through high school.

— Southcoast Hospital Group of Fall River received $2,500 to support the organization’s New Beginnings Program, which gives opioid addicted babies a fighting chance. This grant will empower the program to expand in Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.

The foundation is now accepting grant applications for its first round of funding for 2020. Applications from area nonprofit organizations in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose programs align with the foundation’s mission are welcome. Applications are due on or before June 30.
