Varinder Kumar Sharma and commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Wednesday asked the officers of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to conduct total station survey for streamlining traffic on
PAP chowk along with initiating work on eight laning of
PAP Railway overbridge (ROB).
Both the officers held a session with the
NHAI officers and said that besides regulating traffic on the flyover between Rama Mandi and PAP chowk by widening the existing Railway overbridge from four to eight lane due focus must also be laid on streamlining traffic on PAP chowk. "Several thousand vehicles move towards Ludhiana from city and similarly equal number of vehicles come to city from Amritsar due to which bottleneck was created at PAP chowk. This needs to be removed for which thorough total Survey Station of PAP chowk should be done. This is the need of hour to ensure smooth and hassle free drive to commuters,” they said.
Meanwhile both the officers gave nod to proposal of NHAI officers to construct a dedicated two lane road from
BSF chowk to PAP for ensuring that vehicles moving from city towards Amritsar get a thorough access. They agreed that the existing road from BSF to PAP chowk would be widened by seven metres to ensure dedicated access for vehicles moving to Amritsar adding that the necessary formalities in this regard would be finalised soon.
The deputy commissioner and commissioner of police also agreed to construction of 85 metre bus bay at PAP chowk towards Amritsar for facilitating the passengers. They also asked the NHAI officers to make sure that drenches/ drains along with the retaining wall of flyover were made underground to make the movement of traffic hassle free and smooth. Both the officers also said that they would regularly monitor the progress of these projects by holding such meetings in the coming days too.
