nothing can prevent us from achieving success,’’said Aparna Prabhudesai,
a 47-year-old woman from Pune.She was speaking at an event ‘Pushing the glass ceiling, one obstacle at a time’ here in the city on Sunday.
Aparna had a medical disorder because of which she was unable to get up from bed. She had multiple bone fractures because of the disease. However, she went on to fight the disorder and became the first woman from Maharashtra to reach the summit of Mount Everest from the north side.
She and other successful women shared their stories at the ‘GR8 Weekender’ organized by Nimaaya Women’s Centre for Health in association with Ministry of Memories. It marks an annual celebration and gathering of womanhood during International Women’s Day (8th March) focused around women health, fitness and empowerment.
Two transgenders Chandri and Deepa from Aravani Art Project from Bengaluru showcased their artworks. These were huge painting on walls of buildings to promote the message that transgenders should be made to feel equal and acceptable by society.
“The women speakers talked about their journey and roadblocks in life and work. The event was aimed at celebrating the stories of women who broke through the barriers to overcome challenges in life. GR8 talk is a platform where an all women speaker panel from across India deliver speeches about their journey,” said Dr. Pooja Nadkarni Singh, who officially launched the event.
