BENGALURU: The state bus running corporations including
Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have issued guidelines to their employees to prevent the spread of
coronavirus (Covid-19)
“BMTC has provided general information and
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to all employees as per the advisory issued by WHO” said a BMTC statement on Tuesday. “In February BMTC launched an
internal communication campaign about coronavirus indicating its characteristics, known ways of infection and recommended preventive measures. This information was distributed to all employees including drivers and conductors through WhatsApp, pamphlet and email” said a BMTC release. “The information was also distributed through pamphlets in bus stations. Awareness campaign is being launched through social media”, it said.
Now, this campaign is being enhanced with messages broadcast on the LCD screens located in most crowded locations like bus terminals. The BMTC further said that the circular was issued to create awareness among the cleaning personnel who work in depots. "We have directed cleaning personnel at depots to clean the inside surfaces including door handle, arm rest etc with chlorine or alcohol-based disinfectants". Meanwhile, KSRTC also issued similar guidelines to its employees. KSRTC instructed its staff to alert higher officials and inform nearest hospital in case of any passengers has coronavirus. It also instructed to use disinfectants and clean all buses. It also started awareness through public announcement system in bus terminuses.

Videos of BMTC staff cleaning buses with disinfectants were also going rounds on social media.“We have to take precautionary measures since lakhs of passengers travel in our buses. Many airport-bound passengers too travel in our buses” said a BMTC conductor on a Vayuvajra bus.

* Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands
* Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Sneeze and cough in arm or elbow instead of land.
* Use the mask if you suspect that you are sick or are helping sick people
