Schoolchildren crowdsource Rs 57 lakh to sponsor fees of economically weak students in Chennai school

CHENNAI: Class XI students of Sishya school crowdsourced Rs 57 lakh to sponsor the school fees of 250 students of General Cariappa Higher Secondary School, for two consecutive years.
The General Cariappa Higher Secondary School is run by the Guild of Service. One of the oldest schools of the guild, Gen Cariappa School, established in 1956, has more than 840 students from economically deprived backgrounds who find it difficult to pay even the nominal school fees.
Established in 1923, Guild of Service is one of the oldest social service organisations in India. The primary focus of the organisation is education to all. The guild reaches out to 5,000 beneficiaries, especially children and women.
