CHENNAI: A delegation from the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (
TNCC) called on director general of police J K Tripathy and lodged a complaint against a
Naam Thamizhar Katchi functionary for releasing a derogatory
video on Congress leaders, including late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The Naam Thamizhar youth wing
functionary Durai Murugan uploaded a video of him, recorded at the Rajiv Gandhi memorial at Sriperumbudur, on the
TikTok app. In the video, the TNCC complained, he had made derogatory remarks against Congress leaders. He also espoused the cause of extremism, the complaint said.
“After receiving the complaint, the DGP assured the delegation of quick action,” a statement from the TNCC said. The Naam Thamizhar Katchi functionary has since released a second video in which he regretted his action.
It may be recalled that last year, during the campaign for the bypoll to the Vikravandi assembly segment, Naam Thamizhar Katchi chief Seeman spoke in support of the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Even though TNCC had lodged a complaint with the police, no action was taken against Seeman.
