Gujarat: Italian couple to adopt brothers from Godhra children home

The couple has come to Godhra and the formalities of adoption will be completed on Tuesday.
VADODARA: From being found unattended and unclaimed by relatives for about six years, these two brothers are set to fly to Italy from Godhra. The boys from the children home in Godhra will be adopted on Tuesday by a couple from Italy.
The two boys, who are now 11 and seven-year olds, were found alone on Timba Road near Godhra in 2014. They were taken to the children home in Godhra and attempts were made to locate their parents or any other relatives. When the officials failed in their attempts they were put up for adoption and their details were shared with Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) after completing the procedural formalities.
As fate would have it, a couple from Italy showed interest in adopting both the boys. The couple has a store in Italy and a spacious house. They have a daughter, and they were looking to adopt two boys. But the couple was keen on adopting boys who were also brothers. Their search ended in India when they were informed about the two boys and saw their pictures.
“The couple has come to Godhra and the formalities of adoption will be completed on Tuesday. They had shared the photographs of their home and store with us. After CARA and we were satisfied with the details, we gave them a nod for the adoption,” said Panchmahal district child welfare committee president Nitin Shah.
Shah said that the couple could speak only Italian and hence had to use an interpreter. “We are preparing a list of common Gujarati words and their meanings in English and Italian. This will be given to the children and the parents,” said Shah. He said that this will help them in taking care of conversations necessary in day-to-day life.
