MYSURU: Three
leopard cubs yet to open their eyes were found at a sugarcane field in Tumbala village near
T Narasipur, they were rescued by the villagers. Now the authorities are planning to reunite them with their mother but it looks unlikely and the cubs are facing death due to ignorance of the villagers.
According to the local forest officials, on Tuesday morning around 9am they got a call from the villagers informing that three leopard cubs were found inside the sugar cane field of a local farmer. These cubs are just three -four days old and had not even opened their eyes.
According to the forest department authorities, by the time they were able to reach the spot, the villagers had touched these cubs beside clicking pictures. After reaching the spot, the forest department authorities rescued them and took them to their possession.
"It was a tricky situation as nothing can be administered to these cubs as they are very small. So, to ensure that they will not get hydrated, we offered them clean water mixed milk," informed authorities.
"Ideally, the locals should have not touched these cubs. Today evening the mother leopard would have come and took her cubs to a safe place. But the locals who are ignorant, touched them, pampered them etc," added department sources.
"If the mother cub does not returns, it is highly unlikely that these cubs will survive," informed an officer.
Local Range Forest Officer (RFO), T Narasipura,
Girish Kumar informed that effort will be done for next two days to reunite these cubs with the mother leopard. "We will keep them in the same spot and wait for the mother leopard," he said.

grama panchayat member informed that there are many leopards in a forest next to the village. "The leopard menace is more in the village. We suspect more such cubs inside the local sugar cane fields," he said.
