Noida: Six months after he was
robbed by a person he met on a
dating app, the private company executive from Greater Noida has lost his job and has not found another because filing the police complaint ended up outing him.
The private company he had worked with asked him to stop coming to office “till the matter was resolved,” he said. “Later, they asked me to put in my papers. I tried to reason with them, that I was the victim in the case. But I was asked to resign,” he told TOI.
Having failed to get his point across to the management, he sought help from Noida Police. The then SP (city) Vineet Jaiswal then wrote to the company in October, saying he should be retained as an employee and that the Supreme Court had decriminalized consensual sex between adults of the same sex. It did not convince the management.
“When I asked my immediate boss, he said the owner was unhappy about the letter,” he said.
The father of two from Greater Noida was robbed by two men he had given a lift to on September 4 last year. The main accused in the case, Vishal, had met him on a same sex dating app. Vishal’s accomplice then got in touch with the victim and allegedly demanded sex and money. When he refused, he was assaulted and allegedly given electric shocks before being dumped in Greater Noida. He had complained to the police and, in the process, his identity was revealed.
His search for a job, meanwhile, continues. “My family and I had a very bad experience and we are still coping. The accused narrated an exaggerated version of things to police because of which my image has suffered,” he said.
The Noida Police officials said that victims often don’t come forward with complaints because they are afraid their identity would be revealed. “Many complainants share their experience as a regular loot case and only afterwards do we get to know the pretext was a date. But we hope more people who have been through this will come forward and report such crimes,” said DCP (central Noida) Harish Chander.
He added that victims can contact ACP City I Shraddha Narendra Pandey and their identity will not be revealed.
