NCW issues notice, seeks report from Delhi government on rehabilitation of riot-hit

NEW DELHI: Expressing concern over the loss of human lives, massive destruction of property and miserable state of those affected by the communal violence in northeast Delhi, the National Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi government and written to chief secretary, Vijay Kumar Dev seeking a report on the steps taken towards shelter, treatment and rehabilitation of those affected. The NCW has sought a report from the state government latest by Friday.
Taking cognisance of the violence and series of riots that happened between February 23 to 25 in the many areas of northeast Delhi, NCW chief Rekha Sharma in her notice pointed out that various reports indicated that around 42 people have been killed till date in the riots. “There was widespread destruction of property including several schools, shops, houses and vehicles,” she added.
On February 27 and 28, the NCW team visited the riot-affected areas. The commission has asked the state government to provide by March 6 the government’s action plan for the relief and rehabilitation of affected people.
