VADODARA: A man working in a salon, along with family members, was booked on Sunday for abetting his wife’s suicide. Police arrested 28-year-old Tejal Bhatia’s husband Naresh Bhatia and brother-in-law Jatin Bhatia in connection with her suicide.
According to Tejal’s mother Kusum, her daughter ended her life at her in-law’s house on Ajwa Road on Saturday evening by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. Tejal left behind a suicide note in which she mentioned about harassment by Naresh, Jatin, Jatin’s wife Jaishree and mother-in-law Manjula. She also mentioned that she was suspicious that Naresh had an illicit relationship.
Police said Tejal began to face harassment two years after her marriage in 2010 and was even assaulted and threatened by her in-laws. Tired of the harassment, she decided to end her life, they added.
Based on Kusum’s complaint, an offence of abetment of suicide, cruelty, assault and criminal intimidation was registered at Bapod police station. “We are looking into the allegations that have been made and collecting evidence to ascertain the woman’s claims,” said a police official. Cops said Tejal and Naresh have a five-year-old son, who is currently with Kusum.
