Surat: Top authorities of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) landed in a major controversy after majority of syndicate members cancelled an MoU that the university had entered into with a private sports management institute, recently. The syndicate members cornered vice-chancellor Shivendra Gupta in the specially called syndicate meeting here on Sunday.
Gupta was forced to cancel the MoU with NEST Academy of Sports Management and Development, NASM Educare LLP. He refused to do and asked the syndicate to cancel it instead. The syndicate members demanded setting up of an inquiry committee to find out how the MoU was cleared with a private organization which would have collected Rs6 lakh from students as fees. The MoU was ultimately cancelled.
"The firm was introduced to the university by the vice-chancellor and his supporters. Later, they speeded up the process and the sports management courses were cleared by the authorized body,” a syndicate member said.
Meanwhile, Gupta alleged, "All the syndicate members were aware about the process. They had approved it in the initial stage and after their approval, a committee was formed that looked into details of the MoU and courses. Everything was done in a transparent manner.”
