Worker digging pit comes in contact with live wire, dies

Kanpur: A construction worker was electrocuted while digging a pit under the SMART city project at Nand Lal crossing in Govindnagar area on Sunday morning.
Pankaj Kumar (26), a native of Barabanki, who used to live in the city along with his family members, was hired by a contractor under SMART city project at a site near Nand Lal crossing under Govindnagar police station.
When Pankaj and other workers turned up for work, no one was either warned or informed that the area assigned for digging had an underground cable of a transformer. As Pankaj started digging the pit, he came in contact with a live wire and received an electric shock.
His colleagues raised alarm rushed him to a private hospital, but he succumbed.
Govindnagar inspector Anurag Mishra said, “The body was handed over to his family after autopsy. They have not given a complaint yet.”
