Baby girl found abandoned in Trichy

TRICHY: A baby girl was found abandoned outside a grocery shop at Bharathidasan Nagar in Trichy in the early hours on Monday.
Residents spotted the baby inside a bag near the shop around 6am. They rescued the baby and informed the urban primary health centre (UPHC) in Kattur. A nurse rushed to the spot and took custody of the baby.
The UPHC staff informed the Childline 1098 around 7am. I Muralikumar of Sevai Childline came to the UPHC and shifted the baby to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH).
The paediatricians checked the health condition of the baby and ascertained that she was one day old. Since the baby was underweight, she was admitted to the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU).
Quoting the doctors, Muralikumar said the health condition of the baby was stable.
Childline lodged a complaint with the Thiruverumbur police to trace the parents of the baby.
