Yami Gautam says she didn't insult 'Assam pride' by rejecting 'gamosa' presented by fan, calls her reaction 'self-defence'

After being called 'disrespectful' for rejecting an overeager Assamese fan's offering of a 'gamosa', an article of great significance for the people of Assam, actress Yami Gautam has now shared a clarification on Twitter. The actress said that her reaction was simply that of 'self defense'. She wrote that as a woman, she is uncomfortable with anyone getting too close to her and she did just that when she was approached at the Guwahati airport. Furthermore, she said that she had 'no intend to hurt anyone's sentiments'. In another tweet, Yami also wrote, 'This is my third visit to Assam.I have always expressed my love towards Assamese culture & people. It’s insensitive to react to a single-sided story & spread hate'. Later, she also posted a picture of herself donning the 'gamosa' and a 'japi', a traditional bamboo hat from Assam.
