Elderly Queensland woman missing for days found alive in cane field

Searchers in a rescue helicopter have spotted an 83-year-old Queensland woman alive in cane fields days after she disappeared from a rural property.

Barbara Marincic was reported missing on Friday morning from a Tolchers Road property in the central Queensland town of Yalboroo, 60 kilometres north-west of Mackay.

Police had urged motorists on the Bruce Highway in the area to look out for Ms Marincic and also asked property owners to search their land and buildings for the missing woman.

Ms Marincic suffers from a medical condition which could make her disoriented and unable to find her way home, according to police.

The search had concentrated on a 15-kilometre radius around Yalboroo, but an RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter spokesperson said Ms Marincic was found in cane fields in a new search area.

The rescue helicopter crew member tweeted just after 1pm saying it had found her alive.

She would be taken to hospital for treatment, police said.
