'Thank you so much for your kind words and the support during this difficult time.'

The accident happened when an out-of-control 4WD being driven by alleged drunk driver Samuel William Davidson, 29, ploughed into the group of on Bettington Road.

Four children died while three others were treated for serious injuries. One child, nine-year-old Charbel Kassas remains in hospital.

'These kids were just walking innocently, enjoying each other's company,' he said.

'I told them to go for a little walk. 'Stay together, you guys should be OK'. (You) give them a little bit of independence... this is one in a million, they were just walking on the footpath.'

Local resident Terri Horton was in the front yard of her home - less than 200 metres away from the crash site - when her dog approached the children as they walked past in a group on their way to the local shops.

'They were talking and giggling, and the dog was on a leash but he loves attention so he ran over closer to them,' she told Daily Mail Australia last month.

'I walked inside to get the bins and then as I walked out a few minutes later I heard this bang. It was so loud, I thought a car had crashed into a house.

'All I could hear was a little girl, screaming at the top of her lungs.'
