KOLKATA: A 38-year-old homemaker riding pillion was killed after the bike was hit by an unidentified vehicle on
Kidderpore flyover on Saturday night. Police said Sapu Rabidas, a resident of Karl Marx Sarani in Kidderpore, was taken to SSKM Hospital while severely bleeding from the head where she was declared dead on arrival. Cops are yet to track down the vehicle that hit the bike but have levelled the stringent IPC section of 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), apart from sections dealing with rash and negligent driving, against the driver.
On Saturday evening, a 64-year-old man from Laxmi Narayan Colony in
Garia somehow lost control of the car he was driving and rammed the median divider on EM Bypass near Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. Police said car owner Swapan Chowdhury, who was at the wheel, lost control of the car after another vehicle overtook him. Chowdhury suffered injuries on his chest, head, hands and knees and was taken to a private hospital off EM Bypass. He was discharged after preliminary treatment.
During the day on Saturday, two cases of rash and negligent driving were brought against two auto drivers. At Metiabruz, Md Nasim was booked for driving dangerously and without a licence while another auto driver was arrested from College Street for allegedly hitting a 33-year-old motorcyclist in front of IISWBM.
