Juventus quarantines U-23 squad due to coronavirus

2020-03-02 13:12

Cape Town - Juventus have quarantined their entire Under-23 squad after three players and a trainer from recent opponents, Pianese tested positive for coronavirus.

The youth squad were ordered to not report for training until March 8 after their recent 1-0 win over the Serie C minnows on February 23.

The Independent reports that no Juventus player has shown symptoms of the virus but joint training sessions with the first team have been cancelled as a preventative measure.

"The training activities of the Juventus Under 23 team are temporarily suspended," a statement read on Saturday.

"The preventive measure was decided upon indication, and pending further official communications, by the health authorities of Alessandria (Hygiene and Public Health Service – SISP), with whom the Juventus health personnel are in constant contact.

"The reason is the new cases of contagion of COVID-19, which have emerged in the last few hours among the players of the US Pianese, who the Bianconeri faced on February 23 at the Moccagatta in Alessandria.

"It is specified that six days after the game, the Juventus players remain asymptomatic and are under medical supervision.

"Juventus is in constant contact with LegaPro."

Five Italian Serie A weekend matches including the clash between Juventus and Inter Milan were also postponed due to the coronavirus, the Italian football league said.

Cristiano Ronaldo was spotted on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu as he watched the Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona after the postponement of the Serie A fixtures.
