CHENNAI: A 23-year-old actor, who appeared in supporting roles in films and serials, was found hanging in her house at Tiruvottiyur on Sunday.
Police said P Padmaja stayed alone at the house in Kaladipet, which she rented with her husband Pawan, 25, two months ago. Their two-year-old son is being raised at a relative's house and the couple visited him on weekends. Police said Padmaja separated from her husband last month following a marital dispute, after which he moved to Andhra Pradesh.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Padmaja may have committed suicide due to debt. "She made a video call to her sister on Saturday night, when she expressed worry over her financial crisis. She was not able to land proper roles said," a police officer said.
House owner S Kasinathan, who found the house locked and lights off for two days, alerted the Tiruvottiyur police on suspicion. A police team broke open the house and found Padmaja hanging. The body was sent to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered and an inquiry has been initiated.
