Vadodara: The court of special POCSO judge M K Chauhan sentenced a casual labourer to rigorous imprisonment for 12 years after he was convicted on Saturday of abduction, rape of a 14-year-old girl in January 2017.
As per case details, accused Kanu Khasiya had lured the girl promising to marry her and took her to Ahmedabad and later to Bhavnagar.
Khasiya had come in contact with the minor when he used to give clothes for ironing to her mother.
After she went missing, the mother searched for her at several places and later learnt from Khasiya’s employer that he had eloped with the girl.
The mother then went to Khasiya’s village in Bhavnagar in seaqrch of her daughter but didn’t find the duo there.
She returned to the city and registered a complaint of kidnapping at Bapod police station.
Police later tracked the duo to Mahuva village in Bhavnagar and brought them back to the city.
In her statement, the girl told the police that Khasiya raped her twice at Ahmedabad and then at Bhavnagar too.
Khasiya, who had been arrested for abduction only, also faced charges of rape.
During the trial, the public prosecutor submitted medical evidence and forensic reports against Khasiya.
The court upheld the evidence and also considered testimonies of the girl and other witnesses to convict Khasiya.
