Cops arrest criminal after encounter

Prayagraj: A criminal with a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head was arrested after an encounter in Charwa area of Kaushambi district on Saturday evening.
The accused was identified as Maan Singh and is a resident of Nathai Ka Pura (Kokhraj). Police also recovered a 0.315 bore countrymade pistol and two bullets from his possession.
ASP Ashok Kumar said the accused was wanted in connection with over 22 criminal cases registered in Kaushambi, Prayagraj and other districts.
Singh was arrested when police swung into action after being tipped off about the former’s whereabouts near Kaju village. During the encounter, when police tried to stop Singh, he opened fire at them. He sustained a gunshot in his right leg during the exchange of fire.
