Ludhiana district achieves 55.5% in pre-board exam

Ludhiana: The result of pre-board exams of Class X in government schools of Ludhiana in December have revealed an improvement of 4% (55.5%) over the exams held in September, when the average weighted result was 51.36%. From a total of 16,616 students registered in Class X, more than 80 students did not appear for the pre-board exams held in February, and their names have been struck off.
In Mathematics, 47.17% is the weighted average, which is the lowest of all the subjects. While 404 students scored above 90%, 4,088 students scored below 40% in the pre-board exams. In English, 51.17% is the weighted pass percentage average, with only 433 students scoring 90% and above, while 3,140 students scored below 40%. In the September exams, 3,511 students scored below 40%.
Talking about Science, as many as 2,754 students scored below 40%, while 431 students scored above 90%, with a weighted average 51.68%. Talking about Social Studies, as many as 1,508 students scored below 40%, while 1,020 students scored above 90%, with a weighted average 58.87%.
In Hindi, the weighted average percentage is 60.91, as 1,541 students scored below 40%, while 1,432 students scored above 90%. In Punjabi, the weighted average percentage is 64.33, as 909 students scored below 40%, while 1,082 students scored above 90%.
District mentor Jasvir Singh said, “The teachers are enthusiastic about the results, and they are even taking extra classes and discussing important question with students. Members of Team ludhiana are also backing up with the teachers to motivate students to achieve good results.”
Merit positions
As many as 41 students scored above 90% in every subject, and the department has targeted them to achieve merit positions. A total of 174 students who scored below 40% in all the major subjects are giving inputs, showing scope for improvement. Out of 53 students, five have been struck off from the school record, as they are not from Punjab, and had moved to their home states. Besides, 48 students — who had failed in the exams — attended a meeting at Government Senior Secondary School, Siahar, last week, conducted by school heads. Secretary Krishan Kumar said, “The students are missing need to focus better on achieving good results. School heads have been motivated to achieve 100% result.”
