MADURAI: A 22-year-old
Uzbekistan woman was arrested from a hotel in
Madurai as she was found to be overstaying in India. The woman possessed a fake
Aadhaar card which had an
East Delhi address.
The woman, identified as Naumova Jarina, came to India on a three-month tourist visa in January 2019. Though her visa period ended on March 10, 2019, she continued to stay in India and visited various places. She reached Madurai a few days ago.
A police team from Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), led by inspector Hema Mala, found the woman in a room at a hotel in West Perumal Maistry Street on Saturday. The police team developed suspicion on her and conducted an inquiry.
The woman tried to pretend that she was an Indian national. Police found that she had given a copy of an Aadhaar card in the name of Robiya Nishan of East Delhi. Later, it was found to be a fake Aadhaar card.
She was shifted to the Thideer Nagar police station, where a detailed inquiry was conducted. During investigations, the police team found that she was an
Uzbekistan national.
“We are yet to get information on what she was doing in India for the past one year,” said a police officer.
The Thideer Nagar police registered a case under sections 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC. She was remanded in judicial custody.
