For ICSE X mathematics exam it is suggested that students should stick to prescribed syllabus provided by ICSE board and should put all energy in studying without diverting it into some new concepts which wont be asked in the exam. An important thing students should keep in mind while practicing and solving the exam, is creating a formulae sheet and important concepts used chapter wise, which will help them to understand the overall reviews of all chapters.
Generally application based questions on theorems and concepts are asked in the exam, for this practicing problem solving is the key. For proper management of time allotted, students are advised to solve previous years question papers in a stipulated time.
While solving the paper, students should keep a tab on the time allotted. The exam is of two and half hours and is of 80 marks. It consists of two sections of 40-40 marks. Out of which section A is compulsory and in section B students get options, they have to solve 4 out of 7 questions.
The first 15 minutes allotted as the reading time is the most crucial part of exam. In this time students can choose the questions that they find comfortable to solve and which are less time consuming. It is also advised that students should solve the paper in the sequence i.e. starting with section A and terminating with Section B. While solving problems, only the necessary steps should be included in the solution, and also all the rough work should be done below the respective problems only, marks are also given seeing the rough work incase essential steps are not included in actual solution.
Each sub question should be solved in maximum of 5 minutes. In this manner the entire section A should be completed in 1 hour and the rest of 1 hour 15mintues should be utilized in solving the 5 questions from section B, one considered extra for a safer side. With all this time management tricks, students will be left with a spare 15 minutes which can be utilized in checking the answers.
