Cops say Namaste Lucknow, to start patrolling in parks

Police commissioner Sujeet Pandey (L) gives a pep talk to officers before the campaign
LUCKNOW: After holding Jan Sunwai (public hearing) on Saturday by bringing investigating officers face-toface with complainants and replying to their grievances, Lucknow police on Sunday launched ‘Namaste Lucknow’ campaign to carrying out patrolling in parks to win people’s confidence.
Cops have shortlisted 10 places in the city for the purpose. As many as 20 teams, each comprising five cops will visit parks in two shifts of 90 minutes each during morning and evening hours.
Commissioner of police Sujeet Pandey on Sunday flagged off 20 police vehicles, each with five cops, including a sub-inspector and two male and female constables.
Spots shortlisted by police include Lohia Park and Gomti Riverfront in Gomtinagar, Mini Stadium in Vijyant Khand, Malhaur Eldeco road in Chinhat, Manoj Pandey Park and Dilkusha garden in Cantonment, Kalindi Park in Vrindavan, Deen Dayal Park near PGI, Zonal Park in Aashiana and NBRI Park in Hazratganj.
“Idea behind the campaign is to gain people’s confidence by frequently interacting with them so that they can start discussing their problems. A register will be maintained by the teams where cops will exchange contact numbers with people they meet to increase window for communication. The programme will be monitored by senior police officers,” he said.
