Man goes to meet future in-laws, gets thrashed

Kanpur: A visit to the family home of his ‘lady love’ earned a 29-year-old youth in a stint in prison in Hamirpur district.
On February 28, a man was beaten up and handed over to the police when he went to meet the family of the woman he wanted to marry at the latter’s invitation in Maudaha area of Hamirpur district.
However, police said that the woman’s family contacted them after the accused, Suraj Singh, allegedly started creating ruckus.
A native of Raja Tola village, under limits of Paraspur police station, in Gonda, Suraj claimed that he is a magician by profession.
Sources in the village said that Suraj fell in love with a woman hailing from Maudaha area of Hamirpur. The two wanted to get married and told their families about their intentions.
On February 28, the woman’s family invited Suraj to their village. The family had alleged that they would get their daughter married to Suraj on the same day.
He cycled all the way from his home in Gonda to Hamirpur. However, when he reached the woman’s home, instead of welcoming Suraj to their home, the family held him hostage and thrashed him. They later handed him over to the police, sources said.
Inspector (Maudaha) RC Tripathi said, “The woman’s family alleged that Suraj had started creating ruckus, after which they handed him over to the police and lodged a complaint under section 151 (apprehension of breach of peace and tranquillity of an area) of the CrPC. However, he was later released on bail on Saturday.”
Police sources said the two sides got into a heated argument over an issue, which led to the scuffle.
