Vijayawada: 6 dead, 5 injured after speeding car falls into a rivulet

VIJAYAWADA: Six people died and five others severely injured after the car they were travelling in fell into a rivulet at Pulladigunta under Vatticherukuru mandal in Guntur district on Sunday evening.
All the victims are residents of Kakumanu and were on their way home back after attending a function at Etukuru in Guntur rural limits. The speeding car said to be rolled over multiple times before falling into the rivulet.
The deceased - V Pogadta, Ramana, Sitamma, Varalakshmi and driver Srinu died on the spot. Another person whose identity is yet to be established died while being shifted to hospital. Cops rushed to the spot on receiving the information and shifted the injured to hospital.
According to police, the vehicle lost control after hitting a sign board indicating a curve on the road and rolled over at least few times before landing in the rivulet from a bridge. Cops suspect that the driver might have fallen asleep on the wheel and went off the road ending up hitting the sign board. A case has been registered under section 304 A of IPC and further investigation is still underway.
