Vadodara: The Department of Museology of M S University’s Faculty of Fine Arts organised a two-day national seminar and workshop titled, ‘Museum textiles: Meanings and care’. Addressing the workshop as the keynote speaker, Prof Anjali Karolia, dean of Faculty of Family and Community Sciences, discussed the historic textiles of the country in great details at the national seminar and workshop that ended on Saturday.
Around 36 participants including three international students from museology, textile and clothing, and archaeology departments participated in the workshop. Dr Simmi Bhagat, associate professor of Lady Irwin College of Delhi University discussed about the documentation, storage and stabilization of textiles, while PhD scholar Siddha Shah presented the use of Jain ‘pattachitras’ as source of architectural studies.
“The workshop was aimed to develop skill and confidence among students for correct identification of textiles, their proper documentation, proper storage and meaningful displays through interdisciplinary approach and practice,” said HoD Dr Ambika Patel.
The seminar comprised sessions on historic textiles of India, documentation, preventive conservation of textiles materials, stabilisation of textiles, textiles as source of inferences for architectural studies, as inspiration for commercial designs in the field of applied arts.
