UPRTOU opens study centre at Naini jail

Prayagraj: Prison inmates will now be able to pursue education and take up the course of their choice as Rajarshi Tandon Open University, the lone open university in UP, has opened a study centre at Naini central jail.
The inmates, willing to pursue any of the courses offered by the open university, will not have to pay anything for it.
The academic council (AC) of the university has decided that inmates can pursue any course by paying only 25% of the prescribed fees. This amount, however, will also be paid by jail authorities through jail inmate welfare fund.
DIG, jail, BR Verma and vice-chancellor of the university Prof Kamleshwar Nath Singh inaugurated the study centre on Saturday. As many as 25 jail inmates got themselves registered in various courses. Senior jail superintendent HB Singh also got himself registered for post-graduate diploma in human resource development (PGDHRD).
“Every human being has some special quality. If an individual is vigilant, he can achieve overall development,” he said. DIG, jail, BR Verma said jail inmates had every right to shape up their intellect and ability so that the rest of their life is comfortable.
