Two murders reported in 24 hrs in rural areas

Coimbatore: Two murders were reported from the rural areas on Saturday.
A 21-year-old man strangulated his girlfriend at her house in Keeranatham on Friday. Police identified him as R Dinesh of Sanganoor Road at Ganapathy. “He was working as an interior designer and was in love with M Nandhini of Kallukuzhi in Keeranatham for the last six years. Nandhini was a final year BSc Mathematics student at the Government Arts College here. Her parents had told Dinesh that they would arrange their marriage after she completes her study. But he was not ready to wait and used to pester her,” a police officer said.
After a tiff, Nandhini stopped contacting Dinesh and did not talk to him for the last 20 days. “On Friday afternoon, when she was alone in her house, a dejected Dinesh, who had consumed cow dung powder a poisonous chemical came there and fought with her. He attacked her and also forced her to consume the poison. When she refused, Dinesh strangulated her using a shawl. He left for his grandmother’s house at Kurumbapalayam and later was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH),” the officer told TOI.
Nandhini’s mother, who reached the house after the incident, rushed her to CMCH. The girl died without responding to treatment on Saturday morning.
The Kovilpalayam police have registered a case. Police personnel have been deployed at CMCH to arrest Dinesh.
Though Nandhini’s family refused to receive the body after postmortem, they complied after police officers consoled them.
In another incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for murdering his younger brother at Amman Nagar at Therkkupalayam on the city outskirts. He was identified as S Selvakumar of Amman Nagar, a mason.
Selvakumar’s younger brother S Rajagopal, 35, was found dead on Saturday morning. He was working as a labourer in a local factory, the Periyanaickenpalayam police said. “Both the men were bachelors and were addicted to alcohol. Their mother Guruvammal had stopped talking to Rajagopal as he used to bunk work. Rajagopal used to pick up quarrels with Selvakumar,” an officer from the Periyanaickenpalayam police station said.
On Friday night, when Rajagopal had a fight with mother, Selvakumar intervened. “Rajagopal assaulted Selvakumar using his hands. Later, when Rajagopal was sleeping, Selvakumar strangulated his brother. He told their neighbours that Rajagopal had committed suicide by hanging,” the officer said.
But he confessed to the crime when police grilled him.
