PRAYAGRAJ: Putting greater onus on constables and sub-inspectors to rein in crime, district police is all set to revive beat policing in nine police stations of
Prayagraj district.
Police went ahead with this decision after analysing the crime graph of all 39 police stations in the district. Eleven police stations in the city have been selected for the initiative. A beat policeman is assigned to take care of around 3,000 people in rural and 5,000 people in urban pockets of a district.
Under the system, beat policemen are equipped with body-worn cameras, radio transmission (RT) sets, CUG mobile phones and motorcycles, which help them take prompt action on the spot and collect evidence.
Earlier,
UP Police had revived the system in two police stations of the district,
Kydganj and Khiri. After being satisfied with the change in organisational strategy, police decided to add nine more police stations.
SSP (Prayagraj) Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said, “The exercise aims to bridge the communication gap between the police and masses.”
The SSP said the strategy would be implemented in more police stations if its successful in the additional ones. “Sub-inspectors and beat constables have already been allotted body-worn cameras, CUG sets, motorcycles and RT sets.”
The senior police officials would be checking entries in beat dairies, which would be used to record daily crimes, dispute, any dubious appearances and patterns. With the revamped beat system, sub-inspectors and constables will be able to redress public’s grievances in a better manner.”
