Vadodara: Three prisoners, including two history-sheeters, were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Prisons Act after one of them was caught with marijuana in his possession inside the jail premises on Friday afternoon.
Jail officials found two small packets containing marijuana from the shoes of an undertrial identified as Raja alias Rajesh Damor when he was frisked at the jail’s entry gate. Damor was being frisked in accordance with jail rules as he had return from the district court premises after attending a hearing of his case.
When Damor was questioned about the source of packets, he revealed that two history-sheeters – Samir alias Bunty Pandya and his brother Chirag Pandya – had given him the packets at the court asking him to hide them in his shoes and also told him that they will smoke together once the duo returns to the jail. Jail officials informed Raopura police station and the FSL about it. Forensic experts later confirmed that the contents of the packets was marijuana and weighed around 33.8 grams.
None of the accused have been arrested yet. Police said that after questioning Pandya brothers, they will be able to know how the duo managed to get the contraband amid police bandobast at the court.
It is not the first time that a jail inmates have been able to get marijuana during their visit to the court. In October 2018, a relative of an undertrial was arrested near Malhar Point on Old Padra Road while trying to pass a packet of marijuana to him when he was being taken back to jail from the court.
