PATNA: CPI functionary and former JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president
Kanhaiya Kumar has questioned the timing of the prosecution order against him passed by the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government in connection with a four-year-old sedition case, saying it was done deliberately ahead of
Bihar assembly election.
“The idea is to divert the attention of people from important issues like falling gross domestic product (GDP). Instead of dip in GDP, the focus is on my prosecution,” Kanhaiya told TOI over phone from Ranchi.
He said though the case dates back to 2016, the chargesheet against him was filed two years later. “According to rules, the chargesheet should have been filed within 90 days. However, it was done two years later in 2018 when I was preparing for parliamentary election. Now the prosecution order has come just before the Bihar election,” Kanhaiya said.
“I want a speedy trial in a fast-track court. The country should know the truth. Conclusion of this case is important because people will come to know how some people are playing patriotism card for their political benefits,” Kanhaiya said.
