Karnataka: Customs unit seizes 1.35kg gold

MANGALURU: The customs preventive unit, led by assistant commissioner Rajesh Pujari, on Wednesday booked offence cases against four persons at Kundapur and one at Byndoor after they were found in possession of foreign-origin gold.
Joannes George, joint commissioner of customs, Mangaluru, on Saturday said the unit recovered 1.35kg gold valued Rs 56.99 lakh after purification.
Acting on tip-off that some persons were transporting gold from Kozhikode to Bhatkal, Udupi district police intercepted some people at Kundapur and Byndoor and informed the customs preventive unit here, George said.
The unit rushed to the spot, and seized the gold from the persons after an inquiry. Further investigation is on at the customs headquarters office here, he said.
