Delhi LG briefs PM Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah over violence

Delhi lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Monday briefed Prime minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah over the violence in Delhi. Baijal was summoned by the prime minister to brief him about the situation in Delhi after the riots and the preventive steps being taken by the Delhi government as well as Delhi Police.

Opposition politicians create riot in street and fight in Parliament: Union minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

Talking to ANI, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: "There are politicians from the opposition who create a riot in the street and fight in Parliament. All culprits behind the violence will be punished. We are ready for every debate in Parliament. Peace and harmony is our priority."

Courts not equipped to control riots: SC on Delhi violence

The Supreme Court on Monday said that the courts are not equipped to handle pressure to control riots. The apex court made this comment while agreeing to hear a plea of Delhi riot victims seeking registration of FIRs against those who incited violence. "Courts are not equipped to handle such kind of pressure," said SC.

Delhi violence: High court asks police to file report on rehabilitation measures for victims

The Delhi high court on Monday asked the police to file a status report on measures taken by it for medical treatment and rehabilitation of violence-affected people in northeast Delhi. The court listed the matter for further hearing on April 30.

Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2pm over Delhi violence

Rajya Sabha proceedings were on Monday adjourned till 2pm after the entire opposition vociferously protested over the issue of communal violence in the national capital, with members alleging that the government slept while Delhi burnt. Opposition MPs including those belonging to the Congress, Left, TMC, SP, BSP and DMK were up on their feet shouting slogans and accused the government of failing in its duty.

Delhi violence: Supreme Court to hear plea for lodging FIRs over hate speeches on March 4

The Supreme court on Monday decided to hear on March 4 a plea seeking registration of FIRs against politicians for hate speeches which allegedly led to violence in the national capital. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde agreed to hear the plea filed by riots victims.

As rumours abound, people call up relatives out of fear

Most of the rumours were spread via WhatsApp groups and Twitter. DCP West Delhi was among the first police officials to react. At 8.17pm, the DCP tweeted, “Rumour is the biggest enemy. A rumour has been noticed that there is some tension in Khyala-Raghubir Nagar area of the west district. There is no truth behind it. AAP MP Sanjay Singh speaks to Delhi police chief; asks people not to pay heed to rumours

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said on Sunday that he spoke to acting Delhi Police chief S N Shrivastava on the rumours of fresh violence in the capital and was ensured that the situation was under control. The AAP MP, in a tweet, requested people to not pay heed to any rumours.
