PANAJI: Several parts of Goa witnessed unseasonal rain on Saturday due to cyclonic circulations in the Arabian Sea. The India meteorological department (IMD) has also forecast
light rain over a few places on Sunday.
A nowcast issued early on Saturday showed cloud coverage over the talukas of Quepem and Canacona. A later update showed possibility of rain in North Goa, too.
There were light showers in Sattari, Bicholim, Ponda, Dharbandora, Sanguem and Canacona on Saturday.
“Atmospheric instability and moisture inflow have resulted in rain in a few parts of the state,” said IMD-Goa scientist, Rahul M C.
“When moisture comes in because of the heat, it creates conducive conditions for cloud formation, which further develops into thunderstorm clouds,” he said.
Cyclonic circulations will prevail on Sunday, too, due to which parts of Goa are likely to witness rainfall.
“We can expect light rain on Sunday and cannot rule out the possibility of rain on Monday, too,” Rahul said.
