Almost two decades ago, Chrysler killed the Plymouth brand, but their legacy lives on thanks to iconic models of the past such as the Barracuda.
Produced from 1964 to 1974, the two-door pony car was heavily updated over the years, so depending on the year and what the overall condition is, you could land one from as low as a few thousands of dollars to well over $100k.
If money is no issue, then the one listed by Mecum for their Glendale auction on March 11-14 could be the one you were looking for. The vendor did not provide an estimated selling price, but it will likely fetch close to six figures, as it’s minty fresh and has famous builders behind it, such as West Coast Customs and Duane Mayer, a former Boyd Coddington crew member, who took care of the restoration and other upgrades.
A 1967 model, the ‘Cuda was stripped to the bone and brought back to life. It features Magnum Force Mustang II suspension and front subframe, disc brakes on all four corners, stainless steel brake and fuel lines, aircraft-grade fuel and brake fittings, Griffin radiator and custom dual-exhaust system. Power comes from a modern-day 6.1-liter SRT8 HEMI V8 engine, paired to a 727 Torqueflite transmission. There’s no word on how much its puts out, but in stock form, it’s capable of delivering 425 HP and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque to the wheels.
The muscle car has a black paint finish contrasted by the chromed bumpers and silver accents on the 19- front and 20-inch rear wheels, along with a custom grille signed by West Coast Customs. The interior features a similar look, with black leather and chrome detailing, and adds custom Rod gauges, premium audio from Orion with amplifier, subwoofers and speakers, and air conditioning.
