Lok Sabha MP from Rampur Azam Khan, his wife and MLA Tazeen Fatima and their son Abdullah Azam Khan, who was disqualified as MLA over a forged birth certificate, were brought to a Rampur court on Saturday for a hearing.
The three were transferred from Rampur jail to Sitapur district jail early Thursday — they are in jail in the birth certificate forgery case.
While he was being taken from Sitapur jail, the Lok Sabha MP alleged that “inhuman treatment” was meted out to him — “just like a terrorist”, PTI reported from Sitapur.
“Bahut amanviya bartav hua hai mere saath…just like a terrorist,” he shouted as he was being whisked away, PTI reported.
In the hearing, Rampur District Magistrate Aunjaneya Kumar Singh said, “Azam, his wife and son had filed surrender applications in different cases among 57 cases for today. Azam was granted bail in three cases. The hearing into other 54 cases has been listed between March 3 and 20.”
Government counsel Ram Avtar Saini said, “One case related to violation of model code of conduct was transferred to Moradabad. The hearing on bail applications have been scheduled between March 3 and March 20.”
The court has set a date for March 3 for hearing on bail applications of the three in the forged birth certificate case against which attachment of property order was issued. Azam, Tanzeen and Abdullah subsequently surrendered on Wednesday.
“For the two birth certificate cases, hearing on bail applications has been fixed for March 3. In the fake passport and PAN card case, the hearing will be held on March 16 and 17,” Saini said.
After the three were sent to jail, the Rampur police had said that it would seek the Samajwadi Party leader’s remand in other cases as well. Azam is facing a total of 86 cases in Rampur, lodged since April last year.
On Friday, a day after the three were shifted to Sitapur jail from Rampur jail, the Rampur court sought a reply from the district administration on the grounds on which they were transferred.
