Kelvin Erasmus has written in to the Wheels24 Car Doctor about his car which is revving too high and also keeps stalling when he comes to a stop.

Wheels24 reader Kelvin Erasmus says: "I have a 2005 Ford Fiesta Duratech. The vehicle is revving very high when I start it up (3000rpm). However after a couple of seconds the revs would come done to about 1200 rpm and would stay there.

"Also, whenever I drive the car and come to a stop, the car stalls every time. I have been taken this to a mechanic but still the problems persist. Please help."

Our Car Doctor, Paul Kasker says: "This could be a possible air leak, or most probably a faulty idle stabilizer which is a common occurrence.

Wheels24's Janine Van der Post says: "It sounds like it could also be a timing issue. Perhaps get a second opinion from a different workshop or mechanic since the problem has not been solved."
