VARANASI: At least two labourers were injured when a mine caved in at Billi Markundi mining area in Obra police station area of
Sonbhadra district on Friday evening. The police reached there and began rescue operation.
According to reports, the rock mine caved in around 5pm when a number of labourers were busy in mining. Panic prevailed among them after the incident, as several persons were feared buried in the debris. "We have so far rescued two injured labourers and rushed them to hospital," said Obra police inspector Shailesh Rai, who was leading the rescue team. He said that the rescue operation is still on to see whether more labourers are trapped under the debris.
District mining officer KK Rai, who was on the way to the site, said that the picture would be clear after site inspection. When asked if the mining was done illegally, he said that it would also be clear only after investigation.
