RAJKOT: A prisoner in Rajkot Central Jail was booked for allegedly hiding a cellphone in his boxers. Though the crime was reported on Wednesday, the complaint in this connection was lodged on Friday.
Police said accused Yaqubkhan Pathan, was found to be possessing the cellphone. “Jail authorities also recovered a pouch containing tobacco from Pathan’s possession,” said an official from Pradyumannagar police station.
The jail authorities had received a tip-off that Pathan was carrying a cellphone, following which jail official Manoj Lakhtaria frisked him and found the banned items.
“The phone had a battery, but did not have SIM card. We have sent the phone to forensic department for examination. We are investigating as to who had provided Pathan with the cellphone,” added the official.
It may be recalled that recently a person was caught for allegedly throwing cellphone, charger and pouches of tobacco inside the premises of Rajkot Central Jail.
