RAJKOT: Rajkot Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has approved plan to build a 300-foot wide and 10km-long road connecting the Rajkot city with the proposed AIIMS at Parapipaliya village. The proposal for the new road was approved during the RUDA board meeting held on Thursday along with the proposed town planning (TP) scheme to convert the area around the AIIMS into residential and commercial zone for future development.
In the meeting presided by RUDA chairman Udit Agrawal, the members also approved the budget of Rs 703 crore for the financial year 2020-21.
Talking to TOI, chief executive officer of RUDA Chetan Chetan Ganatra said, “We have proposed TP scheme near AIIMS taking into consideration the need of land acquisition for the purpose of construction of the 300-foot road. The road will provide easy passage to the people coming to AIIMS from any part of the state.” The proposed road will begin from the opposite side of Ring Road 2 on Jamnagar highway, he added.
According to RUDA officials, to build the road, 100% private land needs to be acquired. The road will be part of the proposed TP scheme in 320 hectare area.
The development plan approved in 2017 by the state government till year 2031 divides the area in three zones — green zone (agriculture), yellow zone (residential) and purple zone (industry).
But with AIIMS being finalized near Parapipaliya village, the RUDA authorities want to modify the zoen and approve plans only for residential and commercial purposes. For this purpose, the TP scheme has been proposed to convert these zones, said Ganatra.
The 300-foot and 10km-long road will start from Jamnagar road and will cross AIIMS and meet at Gaurdidad village. The Gauridad road connects Maliyasan road. The vehicles coming from Ahmedabad can reach AIIMS directly without entering Rajkot city. Those coming from Junagadh and Jamnagar will also get benefit of this passage. “There is one railway crossing on the proposed road. We need to construct underpass or an overbridge. This will add Rs 90 crore to the construction cost,” Ganatra added.
